HOW ARCHITECTS WORKED ON THE SHAPE

The most important thing about building in the city center is respect for backgrounds. That’s why the two-story part of the house with restaurants and shops faces the street: in architects’ opinion it just couldn’t be higher. Behind it, there is a five-story facility with flats which are facing the garden.

Authors of the Sretenka, British company John McAslan + Partners obviously love their project. We especially like how they describe the building on the draft: for example, pay your attention to the phrase «fabulous corner flats».

WHAT ATMOSPHERE WE CREATE

This house is for people who love and value old Moscow. For whom Prosvirin, Pushkarev, Pechatnikov are familiar and beloved names. They love refinement, small houses, strolls down the alleys, the breath of history around every corner, silence. But at the same time they don’t want to live in pre-revolutionary houses with small windows, old-fashioned layouts and without service.

HOW UNOFFICIAL NAME APPEARED

We wanted to create a name which will accurately summarize life in this place. A name that would become a common noun, would come into use and be a city toponym. As a result of these reflections, the name «House with a Pool» appeared.

WHAT PAINTER DAVID HOCKNEY HAS TO DO WITH IT

We describe the Sretenka through peoples’ photos at the poolside. The images refer to iconic photographs, paintings and films of XX century, in which water is present. David Hockney and his paintings of pools, mid-century Vogue and Life covers, photos of cold beauties on the beach taken by Helmut Newton - all these works underlie our visual language.

TEAM

British company John McAslan + Partners, who are responsible for architecture and design, are known for their careful approach to historical context and work with historical buildings. For example, they wonderfully renewed the Kings-Cross Railway station in London while building a flying dome over it. In Moscow they became authors of the Bolshevik factory renovation and built the futuristic Museum of Russian Impressionism on its territory. For these and other projects the bureau received in total almost 200 architectural rewards.

The interiors of the apartments were developed by KSR Architects, also a British company, architects and designers. Their houses decorate London Strand and their interiors are very popular among Chelsea inhabitants. In general, KSR are valued for their ability to create harmony using minimal funds and for their love of natural materials and neat accents.

The general designer of the project is Russian architectural bureau Kamen. We built the Beregovoy in cooperation with them.
